Getting Organized

Is it just me or do other people have a problem with mail and paperwork taking over their kitchen table and counters?  I have the best intentions of being organized but I often fall short, especially when it comes to paperwork.  I have a filing cabinet in the office upstairs, but most of the time I feel lazy and don't want to run up and down the stairs to file something.  I saw this idea on Alyssa's blog and thought I would give it a try.

I found this cute file holder at Big Lots for super cheap.

Then I stumbled upon these file folders at Michaels.  They were on sale - 50 cents for a 4 pack.  Score!

The idea is to keep the filing system around where you open your mail so things get filed right away. Then every week or so you transfer everything to your primary file cabinet.  So far it's been working great!

Thanks for the idea Alyssa!

Oh, I have the same problem! I always feel overtaken by paper clutter. ;) This is great and would look much better on my counter than a stack of papers. I am feeling inspired!

Thanks for your visit and lovely comment...always appreciated!

That is awesome - our kitchen is totally cluttered with paper, I'm going to need to look for something like that.

That's a great idea! I always wind up with a pile on top of my daytimer and then the mess obscures my to do list. A file would be much better for me.

I love organizational posts. Doesn't mean I'm organized, but my intentions are good!

Efficient, attractive and easy! I think you might even get me organized with this idea! Love the file folders too:)

Love it Emily! I especially like the file box you found. I do something similar in one of those expandable file things - it's not nearly as good looking as yours and definitely not counter worthy! I keep my stamps, address labels, and checkbook there so everything I need is in one spot. Hope you are having a good week so far!

Nope not just you... I have the EXACT same problem. I love your idea... and I think I'm going to give it a try (as I spy the large paper pile on the counter)

I have to agree with everyone else - I always have one (okay, maybe a couple more) stacks of paper on my counters. This would be a great way to organize and clean up my kitchen!

Great idea! I am a new follower and am heading to Big Lots in search of a file system. I created a space for one in my kitchen as my stack of mail is looking at me waiting for it's new home! :o)

I love this, Emily! And they look like they are meant to go together, too! I love those file folders from Michael's. Every so often I pick up a package for my business. They work well as "consultation" folders when I don't need to write a whole bunch of info on the front {like my actual project folders}.
